Below are some things that occurred to me when I looked at your photos. This week we will not discuss each photo because that is not really necessary. You have all done your best. One went to the store and carefully selected beautiful clothes and cloths, the other tackled it at home and let her creativity flow. By the way, you have all done that, personal touch, own creations and ideas. Nice to read.

You have all made good use of the opportunity to show your cloth; photos from the front, from the side (for a good view of the costume) and photos in which the environment also plays a role. It has clearly been thought through. That struck me this week.

Some more tips for everyone:

– If you take pictures outside and the pictures are a bit dark, it is because there is a lot of backlight. You can solve this by taking the picture with the sun at your back (so the maker stands with his back to the sun) or by overexposing the picture (if you work manually). Just try it.

– Try out different positions. Stand lower with the camera, or higher, place yourself as the subject not in the middle but more to the side. It gives the photo some playfulness.

Okay, below then per model (starting with the first person in the series on the website). Enjoy reading!

Model Carol
It's great that you provide information about your binding method and its meaning. You indicate why you chose bright colors, so you have substantiated why you look a certain way. Looking for the interior of Suriname (calming background, nature) is a great success. You could look out over the Suriname River J. The accessories complete it, jewelry coordinated, flowers in the right colors. A beautiful setting with a beautiful lady!

Your second orange series is original, there is no doubt about that. Also a beautiful large headscarf that is really nice from behind. A connection between NL and your own cultural background is well made here.

Model Melanta
You're into the wraps! That's clear J. Already in your introductory text you show that you know what you're talking about, you clearly know the headscarves and their meaning or cultural name. You've thought carefully about who you are and what you want to radiate with the headscarf (feminine, cheerful, playful). Beautiful original cloth, colours of this time, really a cloth that you can wear with 'normal casual' clothing. Good that you mention the technique of tying with your second outfit. Then others can adopt this hip look. And of course compliments for the photoshoot-like environment. Just like a studio indeed, lights, pose, shadow work well too!

Model Aggie
Nice to read how you experienced your assignment. And you also indicate that tying a scarf for a photo is not that easy, hihi. For the reader it is great that you give a tip to not let your hair get messy at night. Always handy. Clothing is in every photo matched with your cloth/scarf. It is of this time; hip and modern. The blue butterfly as it flies around in the jungle, will certainly return in your own tied 'butterfly'. Nice! Good work with accessory by the way. Your tip on how to tie it is of course also handy.

Model Rachel
That you are a powerful woman is certainly evident in this photo series. You also say that you want to show the African woman with her strength. Well, that worked out well. Your step-by-step plan to wear your cloth like that yourself is really very clear. People can use that. Your looks in the photo are good, powerful, daring, feminine, beautiful. Your clothing is beautifully coordinated with the cloths. Purple and white are very beautiful colours together that look good in your photo. Your poses give the viewer the opportunity to see how the costume is put together.

Model Xaviera
How beautiful how you describe that you want to reflect the Surinamese nature as well as culture in your looks. It is certainly successful. The environment where the photo was taken certainly radiates a natural look, green, freedom to grow. Nice that in your first outfit your hair is still visible (or can breathe as you say). Then we see a bit of beautiful forest. Nice detail! The second model that you have tied is a dense one. But it looks so powerfully beautiful on your head. Proud and strong it seems. The pose of the penultimate photo is also completely perfect with it! Your arm indicates strength, your eyes closed inner peace. Accessories match your cloth nicely.

Model Marley
Your photo series has become a real series J. It starts with thinking about what you want (first photo) and then we see what the result is. Nicely done. Photos sometimes a bit dark because of the backlight but you look good in them and that is important. You write with humor about wrapping your head, that is actually what it comes down to. The balloon animal is a funny addition, you laugh with it so it feels good. With the photos in the garden you made good use of the surroundings. The cheerful colors with the blue cloth fit nicely. The colors shine but you shine too.

Valerie Kross.

Xaviera: Best photos (see photo), despite using nature, you still have product in the foreground. Attitude and poses are good.

Rachel: Best photo (see photo), headscarf is well in the picture. Nice that you also adjusted your make-up, try to make more contact with the camera next time.

Consuela: Best photo (see photo), good that you put the headscarf in the foreground. The rest of the photos are nicely thought out. Try to bring more life into it.

Melante: Nice how you try out all kinds of poses. Just make sure that the rest doesn't stand out more than your headscarf.

Aggie: Nice headscarves. Play a bit more with your pose in the photos. Bring a bit more life into your photos.

Carol: Nice that you tried everything. I think it's a shame that most of the photos show a lot of things around you that distract me a bit.

You need to be the center of attention, make sure you are seen. You can stand out a bit more, you are a nice young lady to look at, come more to the forefront.

Marley: Nice spontaneous photos. Headscarf is clearly visible. Try to come forward more, by also posing for the camera.
