Drs. Mireille Liong; Ecommerce Digital Nomad and Pioneer in Equal Hair Rights

Born in the Netherlands, raised in Suriname and educated in Brooklyn, NY, Drs. Mireille Liong is an award-winning visionary, activist and IT expert who has pioneered Black Hair worldwide through digital platforms, books, exhibitions and a documentary.
Her work has not only changed the conversation about kinky hair, but also created a movement for equal hair rights and self-acceptance .
Triggered by the shocking fact that 73% of Black women deal with hair loss , Mireille focused not only on symptoms, but on the root cause: a world where wearing afro hairstyles was not recognized as a human right .
What started with a simple question, developed – as a pioneer – into a series of historic milestones:
- Kroeshaar.com (2002) – The first Dutch platform for kinky hair that started a revolution.
- Kinky Hair, What You Need to Know and More – The very first book on caring for kinky hair.
- Going Natural: How to Fall in Love with Nappy Hair – A do-it-yourself book that provides guidance on the mental and physical transformation to naturally afro-textured hair.
- Going-Natural.com – A website supporting the book of the same name, which grew into a social community of some 80,000 members.
- BAD Hair Uprooted – An exhibition that creates awareness through the beauty and splendor of Black Hair styles.
- America's Next Natural Model – An online pageant that brings together naturally afro-textured models and entrepreneurs to promote the beauty and versatility of Black hair.
- What Naturals Love – A platform for hair and fashion, culminating in the annual What Naturals Love Hair & Fashion Show .
- The documentary BAD Hair Uprooted – An eye-opener about the physical, psychological and financial consequences of unequal hair rights.
Today, Liong offers fashion and hair products via Kroeshaar.com , while exhibiting worldwide. She currently travels through Africa as an Ecommerce Digital Nomad , where she continues to work on her documentary and develops new work.
