Winner Miss Kroeshaar 2010 about the competition, her motivation and much more!
How does it feel to be Miss Kroeshaar?
It is truly fantastic to be Miss Kroeshaar. When I heard the news I was so incredibly happy. I jumped for joy! All the effort in those eight weeks has been rewarded by winning this competition. It feels good and it confirms to me that I can indeed be a beautiful woman with kinky hair.
It is an exciting and fun time that I am now facing. It gives me an enormous drive to show the outside world that you can also be a diva with frizzy hair. You don't have to hide it. Show who you are and be proud of it. That is what I stand for as Miss Frizzy Hair 2010.
Why did you participate in the first place?
I participated because I wear my hair naturally and am proud of my frizzy hair. In addition, I see magazines around me full of women who have their hair relaxed or wear a weave, which is seen as the ideal picture. Thanks to Miss frizzy hair, I now had the chance to show that frizzy hair can be seen and that it can also be a symbol of beauty. With frizzy hair you can make so many different hairstyles and that should be seen!
Did you think you would win?
From the beginning that I participated my thought was: "it would be great if I would become Miss Frizzy Hair 2010". The competition lasted eight weeks and every week I tried to achieve the best possible result.
It was a huge challenge for me because I had very good competition from the other models. But also putting down different poses every time with a flashy hairdo, coming up with a matching outfit and not to forget a good photo. Every time I thought how can I get even better to win this. Partly because of the positive feedback and critical comments from the jury members I saw myself grow and change into a real model every week. And that made me the winner of Miss Kroeshaar 2010.
What was the most difficult assignment?
The most difficult assignment I found was the African Fashion Week. Africa is a beautiful continent with different countries and cultures. From African dance, music, and masks, to the colorful clothing and jewelry. This made it difficult to give a good interpretation to the assignment. In what way can I make Africa stand out in my photos, I thought.
In terms of content, I then started to delve into the diverse cultures of Africa. This was very fascinating to do.
I ultimately chose the color red for my clothing because it symbolizes love, authenticity and natural beauty. The African woman comes across to me as a woman who has courage with a good dose of self-confidence. And that is why I find red an ideal color to be able to convey the power of the African woman.
Which one is the nicest?
The most fun assignment I found was the theme “portfolio” because I was able to present myself in different ways. Especially with the emphasis on who I am. During this Miss kroeshaar election I learned and was able to apply a lot. Especially making contact with the camera was an important lesson in combination with portraying the different poses.
But the most fun assignment for me is the last assignment of Miss Kroeshaar 2010. The intention of this assignment was to promote the hair product line of Jamaican Mango and Lime (JML). Trying out the different products was an experience in itself. My creativity was of course indispensable for this assignment. I wanted the hair to be as original and striking as possible because that is what it is all about as a Miss Kroeshaar model. For the complete picture I wanted my clothing and jewelry to match the colors of the JML hair product line, namely yellow and green. Characteristic for JML is the country Jamaica with its beautiful white beaches and its ingredients mango and lemon. It was very fun to do and I also won this assignment!
What did you really think were the best products?
As a model I was able to try out different products during the frizzy hair contest. That was really fun to do because I was very curious about what effect it would have on my hair. In the first week we were allowed to try out the silky shea butter and shampoo, which was a really wonderful feeling. My frizzy hair literally came to life and felt wonderfully soft. The shampoo really made my scalp feel reborn. I can really recommend that to everyone. And then we haven't even mentioned the smell of the shampoo. It has a wonderful peppermint scent. Very pleasant and refreshing.
The Sula NYC is also a good product for your frizzy hair and there are many more products available in the kroeshaar.com webshop.
I also think JML belongs in the list of best products. I call it the "all in 1 hair product line". I am a fan of products with natural ingredients. It just can't get more natural with mango and lemon. JML has really thought of everything. It has, among other things, a wonderfully soft cleansing shampoo that massages the scalp and prevents an itchy scalp. In addition, there is a wax for healthy and good-looking locks and twists, a leave-in conditioner that naturally nourishes and strengthens your locks and twists and also prevents your hair from breaking. A pure cactus oil that is good to use for dry and damaged hair and finally a moisturizer for good hydration of the hair. JML hair product line now makes it so easy that all hair products are within reach. Never search for what your hair needs again. JML is the answer to problem-free beautiful locks or frizzy hair!
Who did your hair for you? And who took the pictures?
I personally find it very important to come across as surprising. Different hairstyles ensure that you always look different.
Marleen Oron was responsible for the fantastic hairstyles during the Miss Kroeshaar election. For each assignment, a lot of thought was given to which hairstyle we wanted to have together. We gained a lot of inspiration by browsing through magazines and journals about hairstyles. But mostly we appealed to her own imagination and creativity. It was great fun to see the end result in the photo. A good photo was a very important factor in this election. These were taken by my family, Daphne (acquaintance), Ferry Pariury (a good friend), and Paul van der Blom.
Who do you think was your biggest competitor?
During the Miss Kroeshaar election I had a lot of competition because we were all good in our own right. One model was good in her poses and another was original and very strong in styling or very good in several points at the same time. That made the election quite tough but also challenging.
The biggest competitor for me was Melanta because we were really evenly matched. That's why it was so exciting who would eventually be the winner.
What do you do in daily life and what are your ambitions as a model?
In daily life I am very busy with my studies; direction Human Resource Management at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam and in addition I work as a prevention officer at the GGD Rotterdam Rijnmond for the cluster infectious disease where I reach young people from 16 to 30 years old by means of information. Furthermore I also work at Marketing and Sales agency Aim in Rotterdam. There I am responsible for telephone acquisition, generating leads and bringing in new prospects.
In addition, as a Frizzy Hair model, I want to make black women more aware of the natural beauty and versatility of frizzy hair. The role as Frizzy Hair ambassador seems to me a great way to reach people. I want to say to those people that if you know how to handle frizzy hair and give it the right care, you will have a lot of fun. You can be a diva and radiate that from the inside out.
The main prize is to make a commercial for SME Omroep. (sme-omroep.nl).
Have you thought about that yet?
It is important to me that the viewer knows why they should watch SME-omroep. I want to approach the black community/youth in the Netherlands in the most catchy way possible. That diversity in the Netherlands is definitely there and via SME-omroep that target group can get a face.
Is there anything else you would like to say to the kroeshaar.com visitor?
