I never thought dreadlocks would be something for me. Not because I don't like them but mainly because of the maintenance.
Beautiful healthy dreadlocks take time. Not only does the hair need time to grow in length, the hair strands also need time to grow together. In the meantime, this needs to be maintained very well, otherwise you will get locs that grow crookedly with a bit of a bang in between. Knowing myself, there is a big chance that this would be my fate if I were to start with locs. I don't go to the hairdresser that often and I can't do it myself.
I always wanted to try loc extensions and this summer I got the chance.
When I saw Brooklyn hairstylist Quincy's work, I knew I had to go there. Even I, a kinky hair expert, can barely tell real locs from her extensions. Not only is the hair she uses perfect, she does it in under 2 hours and creates an amazing hairstyle.

When caring for extensions, it is important to use the Scalp Conditioning Spray to care for the scalp
and also a good shampoo such as the Herbal Shampoo that does not leave any product residue.
I have worn extensions before but this is a completely new experience for me. As I wrote before I always feel a bit burdened with extra hair on my head. It always feels a bit fake but these locs are a completely different experience.
I know it’s not my real hair by a long shot but it looks so real and natural that I absolutely love my locs. When I ran into an old friend of mine who’s had dreadlocks for seven years he looked at me strangely. “Since when have you had locs?” he asked? You see, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other I said laughing. He clearly didn’t get it but when I told him they weren’t real he almost got even more embarrassed.
But besides the fact that it is so real it also feels really good. The hair is light, they are the lightest extensions I have ever had, it dries quickly and it is really the easiest hair ever: getup and go. I wash my hair every week with either the Olive or the Peppermint Shampoo and then I put a towel over my head. If the hair is still a bit damp I put Scalp Conditioning oil in it and that's it! I can recommend this to anyone with extensions. My hair grows without any problems.
The biggest compliment is that salon owners ask me where I did my hair and what kind of hair I used. So I went looking for it and I couldn't find the hair that Quincy uses but I did find extensions that come very close.
The hair comes in strands so you can wrap it around your own hair (wrap/twist) and don't have to make the dreadlocks yourself. If you want to try it, check the De Kroeshaar Webshop, especially for Hair Products for Curls and Frizzy Hair
