4 Ways to Wear Kinky Twists, Box Braids and Braids

Mireille Liong

This year I'm trying to wear extensions all year long. Just like when I first decided not to relax anymore. So I'm starting a new transformation, so to speak.

loosepins1.jpg For those considering going curly, this is a chance to make the switch right away. You are not tied to anything. The only thing that matters is
going natural herbal shampoo that you enjoy your hair. I am actually very curious whether I can keep it up and do it again. I think the summer will be especially difficult. In order to build in an escape, wraps, headscarves and such are also allowed. Latifah, who often visits the frizzy hair forum, is the first to participate. Will you join in? It really is an easy way to get your own healthy hair back if you have been relaxing for years. You can ask questions and get support via the forum. You can also keep a diary and even an album via the site. There are all kinds of advantages to that.

Twists
For the first time I am wearing twist extensions. They are very trendy and Nicole had done my hair before I left Suriname. They really look real. They even take on the structure of my own hair. My twists curl and shrink and these extensions do that just as well. Even my own family and seasoned nappturals thought it was my own hair. Not so.

The care
@Latifah: you asked me how my twist is doing, so it's going well. They are very easy to care for. Nicole braided my hair with the Silky Shea Hair Butter . I wash my hair weekly with the Going Natural Herbal Shampoo and I also regularly spray the Scalp Conditioning Spray in my hair. A tip from a former veteran locster. She is allergic to everything and this spray is really the only thing she uses. It is really wonderful stuff. The Kemi-Oyl Conditioning Spray is really drunk by my hair and therefore leaves no residue. The twist therefore does not feel dry and does not look dry either.

I also occasionally use the Scalp Conditioning oil.

I've been wearing the extensions for almost two months now and the beautiful partings that Nicole made are a bit lost. I actually think that they are getting worse going natural scalp conditioning spray better as they get older. Luckily I know better than to leave them in longer than 3 months. Before that time I take them out, otherwise the extensions will lock in my hair and we don't want that.

Since this month is all about marriage I want to show you how to transform “old” twists into a festive and even wedding hairstyle. For that I pulled some accessories from the webshop and soon I got in the mood.

First I'm going to work with the smallest decorative combs. They come in all sorts of colours and you can use these combs to decorate both your short-cropped afro and your twists. They not only brighten up your hairdo, they also keep it nicely in place.

On either side of the middle parting I put the combs in one front. To make it all special, I picked colors that match my clothes and jewelry. I bought this set, necklace, earrings and bracelet, years ago at the Bijenkorf. So you are basically ready and you can go to the party. However, if you want to keep the hair out of your face, take a few twists on either side and fasten them at the back. Or in a knot, but a decorative pin can of course make it even more beautiful.

The updo

No More Knots Twists can also be put up very easily. With a few hair ornaments, such a hairstyle can look very chic. It certainly does not look out of place at a special occasion such as a reception. Moreover, the hair is also out of the way so you can really let loose if you also want to dance, for example.

updotop.jpg Flower CombButterfly pinThis is actually just a simple roll. Bring the twists to the back as if you are going to put them in a ponytail and then roll them inwards. The large pin from the WebShop holds the hair firmly in one go. Finally one that is also suitable for twists and locks. My 5 euro scarf is still going strong. I use it to give the hair a nice shape. Hold it under the warm tap, wring it out and wear it for 10 minutes. Then I place a comb on the side to finish the hairstyle. Look at me.

Satin headbandThen the classic headband. A favorite that always looks good. The shiny satin feels nice and light and is a caress for both the hair and the eye. Whether you are dancing Salsa or bubbeling, the hair stays nicely out of your face.

The Scalp Conditioning Spray is recommended for scalp care for any hairstyle where the scalp is exposed to the environment.

Last but not least, the most beautiful piece of jewelry from the webshop. There is only one, I will keep the other one for myself. It is like a crown on a comb and you can also decorate all afro hairstyles with it.

With the accessories from the WebShop I could probably have done another 20 different looks, but I'm already camera tired. Hopefully these hair lessons are enough to inspire you. I would say, let your own creativity loose on the accessories and enjoy your (artificial?) hair.

If you want to know more about extensions, try to get the booklet “Kroeshaar; wat je moet weten en meer” at your local bookstore. The webshop is unfortunately sold out, but it is still available on special request. Send the request via the contact form.
