The afro is perhaps the most obvious and typical frizzy hair hairstyle. Yet I get a lot of questions about it. Hence this manual with photos.
Of course, because it is “in”, many want to know how to make an afro. There are many ways to do this. All you really need is a nice head of frizzy hair. The more the better. Here are the instructions on how I make my afro. Hopefully you will succeed in making a fro like this or it will inspire you to wear the hairstyle in your own way. You know, I am always open to suggestions. Good luck!

A good product is half the battle. The Silky Shea Hair Butter not only makes the hair wonderfully soft, it also protects the hair strands when they are worn loose.
As usual, the starting point is the same. For making a hairstyle, my hair is usually divided, a division varies between 6 and 12 parts.

How do I divide the hair? I just take some hair, twist it around my index finger into a strand and tuck it in. I do this to prevent as many knots as possible.

To make an afro you take the sections out one by one. My hair was in a twistout the day before so there were still some twistout curls in the hair here and there.

Once all the sections are loose, you start to comb the hair with your hands, as it were. To do this, you take a random section between your fingers and palm and stretch it out to its full length. Almost like how you pull a comb through your hair.

To get a full afro you need as many individual hair strands as possible. Therefore also separate the strands that are together e.g. from a braid or twistout. Use your fingers for this; thumb and index finger.

When the hair is a bit looser, bring all the hair back together as if you are going to make a ponytail. This is to make the afro a whole and to get volume. Now also “comb” the last ends with your hands. This is the only step where I sometimes use an afro comb so that the ends come completely loose.

If you let the hair down now, the afro will fall into shape by itself. If you are not satisfied, repeat the steps above.
Tip: for a maximum size afro, you can comb out the hair section by section with the brush and Silky Shea Hair Butter .

Another tip from neosoul from Nappturality: for a perfectly round afro, use a silk scarf. Put the scarf over your afro, leave it for a few seconds and then slowly let it slide off your hair.
