What can I use for my baby's hair?

M. Liong

Hello, I am the proud mother of a beautiful daughter. She is 21 months old and half Surinamese half Dutch. Her hair has gone from very little to a full head of curls in a short time.

It also seems to change all the time. I first used a moisturizer spray (white bottle with a pink label with a baby on it), don't remember what it's called and from Just me a kind of grease. This was no longer sufficient and her hair couldn't be styled properly anymore.

Now I have a 2 in 1 shampoo from dark and lovely, the oil moisturizer from dark and lovely and vitamix vet.
I wash her hair every other day, then put moisturizer in it and then some grease. After sleeping and before sleeping I wet it, comb it out carefully, put moisturizer in it and a little bit of grease.

But even with these products I can't get my hair into a nice style anymore. It quickly becomes dry and frizzy…….
When I wash her hair, her hair is really beautiful, the curls hang so nicely, but once I start combing it (with a wide-toothed comb) and put in the products, that effect is completely gone.

She has a bit of a coarser curl on top and her hair has very fine curls in the back. Her hair curls all the way up to her head.
Now I read everywhere that natural products are the best, but what I can find so far is all for adults.

What is the best to use for my daughter's hair????? I have emailed some photos to hopefully give a clearer picture.
I have to say, in the photo her hair seems to shine, but that is partly due to the flash.
Thank you in advance!

Greetings Iris

Dear Iris,

Thank you for visiting kroeshaar.com, your question and the beautiful photos. You do indeed have a beautiful daughter with a lovely head of curls.

Just Me, Dark and Lovely etc are all products that contain ingredients like mineral oil. These are not great for frizzy and curly hair as they eventually build up and dry out the hair strands over time.

What I therefore recommend first is to rinse your daughter's hair with a baking soda paste. This takes some getting used to because it is very different from a shampoo, but you will notice that the curls feel super soft again and keep their shape. Use the baking soda paste 1 to 1; 1 cup baking soda to 1 cup coconut oil. After this, it is best to switch to the Going Natural going natural no more knots detangler Herbal Shampoo .

In addition, the following products are also super child friendly: the Curly Twistout Hair Cream , No More Knots and Herbal Styling Gel . These are natural products that will not build up and will probably keep the curl nice and tight in the hair.

Furthermore, I don't think you need to wash your daughter's hair every other day. It will only disrupt the curls because washing the hair will strip it of its natural oils. Especially if the hair is washed with an unfriendly shampoo with sls in it. Try the Going Natural Herbal Shampoo once a week and see how it goes.

Hopefully this will help you and you will send us some more beautiful photos soon.
