Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't my hair grow? I don't know what you do with your hair, but people often think that frizzy hair doesn't grow because it breaks off before the strands can reach their maximum length. See the answer to the next question.

Why does my hair break and what can I do about it?
The main reason that frizzy hair breaks is because it is dry. To prevent this, the moisture/fat content of your hair must always be at the right level. Supple hair allows a comb or brush through more easily, the hair therefore detangles more easily, which prevents hair breakage. Look in the webshop and see which moisturizers are most suitable for your hair.

How long can long curly hair actually get?
Afro hair can grow just as long as any other hair type. Just as your length as a person depends on the genes you have inherited, so does hair growth. So hair growth is not dependent on hair type but on your genes. If you can imagine that three quarters of black women would wear locs instead of relaxed hair, you suddenly get a completely different image of afro hair. Then you would be used to the fact that afro hair can also simply grow long.

Why then do we hardly see black women with long hair?
To make a fair comparison, you have to look at the length of naturally frizzy hair. You can’t compare relaxed hair to the hair of other races that is naturally straight. That’s an unfair comparison because frizzy hair is weakened by chemical treatments and breaks more easily. If you pay attention, you’ll notice that black women with the longest hair wear their hair frizzy, usually dreadlocks.

What can I do to make my hair grow?
What you need to know is that besides healthy living and a good diet, proper hair care is also essential. Just as babies need the right nutrition to grow up healthy and well, your hair also needs the right products and care to reach its maximum length.

With frizzy hair, keeping the moisture/fat content at the right level is the most important. Therefore, avoid using products with harmful ingredients such as Petroleum and SLS that dry out the hair. (see this list: http://home.hccnet.nl/henk.dewit/schadelijke_ingredienten.htm). Choose as much as possible for products on a natural basis that are made for your hair type such as the products that are available here in the WebShop. In the section “Products Against Hair Loss” there are products to combat hair loss and promote hair growth.

How often should I wash my hair?
Once a week is usually often enough, but you can also do it once every 2 weeks. It all depends on your lifestyle. For example, if you exercise a few times a week, you will have to wash more often than someone who does not exercise.

How often should I cut my hair?
Haircutting is not mandatory, but if you have split ends it is highly recommended. Split ends tangle and cause knots which further damage the hair strands. That is why you can better cut.

Is it true that cutting makes hair grow faster?
No, that's a myth. If you have dead and split ends, you should cut them off, because they cause knots that can easily damage and break your hair.

Can you style your own hair? Or do hairdressers is there a special method for that?
The best hairdresser for frizzy hair is a barber. Have you not noticed that our men always walk around with their hair neatly trimmed? However, if you are handy and know what dead ends look like and especially how they feel, you can do it yourself. It is advisable to buy professional hairdressing scissors. Here on the site there is an article on how I do it. Maybe you can learn from it.
