Kapsels voor een bigi jari

My frizzy hair dilemma: Hairstyles for a Bigi Jari

M. Liong

Dear Mireille, Actually I don't really have a question, but I'm more stuck with a hair dilemma. I've been 'natural' for over ten years. In that time I've had all sorts of hairstyles, ranging from twists, cornrows etc. I am a natural, but a rather lazy one I must admit (not to use the word 'lazy':).

Kapels voor een bigi jari I do use hair products that are free of minerals, petroleum, sleep with a headscarf, etc. but I am not always consistent in this. Sometimes I think my hair is not right and then I 'slap' gel in it from Kruidvat, so to speak, go to sleep with wet hair or dye my hair (and no, not with henna!) to still look good (especially at parties I have trouble with that).

So far my hair has been holding up reasonably well. I have also cut my hair short a few times and then it grows back (to my own surprise). The only thing I am really consistent about is that I have never relaxed or even tangled my hair again. Even though the temptation is sometimes great, when I see certain hairstyles in the well-known hair magazines or with 'dark stars'. I know that there is more to it than meets the eye and you are also fooled with lace wigs, weaves etc. No offense to the women who do use this. Everyone has to decide that for themselves.

This year I turn forty. For me a milestone in several ways, but also concerning my hair. For example, I am getting more and more gray hairs that I can of course disguise, but it does make me realize that not all hairstyles suit me anymore. At least that's what I think... My dilemma is, what is a good hairstyle for someone almost forty? Short hair is easy, but I want longer hair now, because I assume that when I am an old lady, I will cut it short again...

I have temporary twist extensions in to prevent myself from cutting my hair again. I am in doubt about Sisterlocks. It all looks very nice, but I think it is quite laborious in terms of maintenance (not to mention the costs). In addition, I am quite lazy and I doubt whether this is a good option.

Are there other readers who recognize themselves in my dilemma and do you have any tips Mireille? By the way, I think your hairstyles are great!

Thanks in advance.

Greetings, Moon

=======================================

Hi Maan,

The very first part of your story is very similar to mine. Believe it or not, I am incredibly lazy when it comes to hair, not to mention lazy indeed. I can literally walk around with uncombed hair for weeks if I don't have somewhere that requires me to look a bit better. Since I have my own products, I honestly don't just put products in my hair anymore and I regularly go to bed with wet hair, but I do make sure that it is combed out and twisted into a number of large what I call banas (sections). In 6 to 8 of the large bundles on my head otherwise it is really a cry the next day.

But anyway, you are looking for a hairstyle for your bigi jari! You do not say how long your hair is and which hairstyles you think do not suit you. I am actually curious about that. Hopefully it has nothing to do with age, because let me tell you something? My bigi jari was a few years ago and I just celebrated it with an Afro.

I think you have a lot of choice, from curls to kwiekwieba or flat twists braided on the head, but of course it is what you like. Here is an example here, but look in the Kroeshaar Gallery . This is now really super extensive. Not only can you choose hairstyles, there is care advice as well as address and telephone numbers of the salons where you can go. In the meantime I have started with Braidlocs, so that is still possible if you would like.

In advance, a very happy birthday and many more healthy years.
