Hello, I am Fabienne and I am a girl of 14 years old. I am a half-blood: my mother is from Mali (West Africa) and my father from the Netherlands. I also have frizzy hair, but I have problems with that because I can't do anything with it what I want.
I want straight hair and European hairstyles. I would like to straighten my hair but on the one hand I hesitate because there are also disadvantages:
your hair may fall out
it is chemical: so very bad for your hair
it starts to itch etc.
But I read somewhere that there are also relaxers/straighteners with only natural products in them and no chemicals, that is better for your hair and then your hair will not fall out. But my question: does it also work for my hair/afro-african hair or is it only for slightly frizzy or curly hair? Does it work better for me than for other frizzy hair because I am half-blood and therefore have less frizzy hair? And if there is a natural relaxer/straightener without chemicals in it, I would like to know which brand that is and where I can buy it.
Thank you in advance
Fabienne

Hi Fabiene,
First of all, thank you for your email. I think it's really nice that you ask this question because many of your peers are struggling with the same thing.
Although I know the desire to relax the hair, I do not recommend it. When I was your age I also relaxed because I did not know what else to do with my hair while I still wanted a nice, smooth, hip hairstyle. Well, my hair broke off up to my scalp 3 times and I still have trouble with difficult spots on my scalp. So you are very well informed. Relaxing the hair has many disadvantages.
Unfortunately, according to my research, natural relaxers do not exist. The last natural relaxer that was widely promoted here in America was taken off the market because it turned out to be even more damaging than the chemical relaxer. An American organization even banned the product because the hair of the users literally fell out. That is why I strongly advise against these so-called natural relaxers. It was really drama all around.
If you really want European hairstyles and straight hair you will have to relax. The good news is that you are well informed and hopefully will stop when your hair breaks.
Still, I want you to know that a lot is possible with frizzy hair. We also live in a time when frizzy hair and frizzy hair hairstyles are very popular, so you can try everything and even European hairstyles can be recreated. Just look in the Frizzy Hair Gallery. There is bound to be a nice hairstyle that you can try to recreate yourself. This way you can calmly learn to deal with your natural hair in your own way and even develop your own unique style.
To make caring for your curls a little easier I would recommend you stop using shampoos that dry out frizzy hair. Using the Going Natural Herbal Shampoo and Deep Conditioner will make a world of difference for your hair to start with. If you want to treat yourself I would also recommend the Detox Conditioner .
In addition, it is good to use the Silky Shea Hair Butter or the Curly Twistout Hair Cream to keep the curls in a beautiful and healthy shape. Find out which brand or product suits your hair type best.
Success!
