Baby met gemixed haar

My 3 year old daughter has mixed hair that doesn't grow

Mireille Liong

My daughter is 3 years old and a mix of afro/american/white or whatever term I should use. What I am concerned about is that she has mixed hair that does not grow. I have heard this before, but having mixed hair has nothing to do with the fact that the hair does not grow.

Baby met gemixed haar In itself that is not so bad. The hair is just short but she still has that bald baby spot on the back of her head with some downy hair on it and on the sides/top she has almost no hair.

The first few years we washed it once a week and brushed it greasy and then combed it through with a coarse comb, we did this ritual every day. Then I tried to put it in ponytails for a while, but because the hair is so short, I think I pulled out more hair than it grew longer (I was told by a Surinamese lady: put it in tight ponytails and the hair will grow faster). So I stopped doing that because it breaks very quickly, now I'm back to the old daily routine of brushing/greasing/combing.

Hi,

going natural no more knots detangler Mixed hair has nothing to do with hair growth. How long hair can grow is genetically determined and is in fact no different than the height of a person. And just as nutrition is important for good growth, hair care is the determining factor whether the maximum length of the hair can ever be reached.

That tight braiding makes hair grow faster is one of the biggest myths about frizzy hair. Tight braiding is never good for anything, you actually pull out the hair.

In addition, hair fats for babies are not recommended anyway, so stick to natural products as much as possible.

For now I would leave her hair alone for now. You don't have to wash, comb or brush her hair every day. Frizzy hair grows best when left alone. Washing her hair once a week with a tiny bit of diluted Going Natural Herbal Shampoo is more than enough. Then spray some No More Knots in her hair, a very child-friendly product that babies love, and comb or brush it through her hair. If you want her curls to be beautifully accentuated you can use either the Herbal Styling Gel or the Loc Glove .

If you really suspect that it could be something subcutaneous, I advise you to go to the dermatologist to rule out a few things. What you should also know is that the hair of children with frizzy hair can be in the baby phase until the age of 5; a phase in which the hair still has to be replaced with real hair, comparable to the changing of a child's teeth. This means that the hair of many frizzy-haired children only starts to grow after that. It is even believed that the less hair at birth, the more hair the girl will have after this phase. So all hope is not lost yet.
