Rwanda Live: Discover the Pearl of Africa with me

I've been on the African continent for just over a month now, and I'm wide-eyed with wonder. Rwanda is beautiful. The rolling hills, the fresh fruit, the warm people—it's truly a delight.

As an avid walker, who aims to get at least one hour of steps in per day, I’ve been exploring Kigali on foot whenever I can. That is actually also how you get the most out of a city. The hills are a challenge, I am not gonna lie. I’ve never ever been out of breath so many times in my life, just by walking.

As an avid walker, who aims to get at least one hour of steps in per day, I prefer to explore Kigali on foot as much as possible. I think that's actually the best way to truly get to know a city. However, I have to admit: those hills are no joke. Going uphill, I'm constantly out of breath.

The Hills of Kigali: A Challenge with a View

The road to the Afri Farmers Market and the gym is a climb every time. Still, I enjoy it. I stop, take a deep breath, look around and let it sink in: wow, I'm here… in Rwanda, Africa. That realization makes every step worthwhile.

A month in Kigali, Rwanda

The descents are an adventure in themselves. Sometimes so steep you almost slip, sometimes so rough you're afraid of stumbling. I was once very proud to have climbed a steep hill, only to discover that going down was almost impossible without tumbling. What should have taken a few seconds, therefore took almost five minutes, but luckily I didn't land on my backside!

Discover Rwanda Live: There is so much to do

I spent the first week looking for an apartment, but after that I took a cooking workshop, visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial, ate at various restaurants, and walked about 150 km. Since this is far below my Amsterdam average of 320 km, there is room for much, much more, and I would love to take you along!

We can go uphill, downhill, visit museums and restaurants together, but also go shopping and discover the latest African fashion and accessories!
