Twist Out in Suriname

Report on 400 years without a comb in Theater Unique

Mireille Liong

Twist Out in Suriname Suriname was incredibly fun, cozy and successful. The documentary “400 years without a comb” was better received than I could have imagined. Of course, the panel consisting of Henna Draaibar, Ivan Wijngaarde, Melissa Venetiaan and Verginia Asin made a great contribution and I am very grateful to them.

One of the nicest reactions of the evening was from Zarissa Windzak of De West who emailed me the following:

By the way, I also enjoyed the evenings in the Unique theater and am already looking forward to the next afro happening. I must mention that the film screening on November 9th gave me the final 'push' to go out on the street with an afro, which I have never done. So it must indeed be possible. I will undoubtedly turn some heads (or surprise them), but that does not matter. Thanks for that in any case.

Well thanks to you Zarissa, that's what I do it for. The piece Zarissa wrote for De West can be read HERE on the site.
