The Kinky Hair Video Diaries is the Dutch extension of the Going Natural Video Diaries. Its goal is to portray the Kinky Hair Movement as it unfolds to find out what we can collectively learn from kinky hair.

In the pre-digital era, we had to wait years before we could look back on a development that was close to our hearts. That is no longer necessary. With today's possibilities for making video recordings, we can document developments as they unfold.
The advantage of this is that by following the developments we can learn from each other; what are the collective similarities of our individual experiences when we go frizzy? In what way does our experience differ and what exactly is it that connects us?
These are all questions that I hope will be revealed through this new online documentary.
In America I have received more than 30 videos from ordinary people who have sent in their video, but also models and even a city council member Robert E. Cornegy with dreadlocks down to his waist. Now I like to do that in the Netherlands and Suriname too.
If you would like to participate in this documentary, please submit your video in which you answer the following questions:
Questions for the ladies:
1) Introduce yourself; Name, profession, place of residence
2) When was your first relaxer and what was your experience like?
3) Have you ever believed that you had bad hair? If so, when and how did that change?
4) When did you decide to go curly, why and who was your inspiration?
5) What was the hardest part about going curly? It is often said that women are afraid to go curly because they believe that men don't like curly hair. Was that the case for you too?

Questions for the gentlemen:
1) Introduce yourself; Name, profession, place of residence
2) How important is your hair to you as a man? Have you ever had a Curly or relaxer (dreadlocks if you don't have them) and why did you choose your current couple?
3) What does your hair mean to you? Is it just part of your style or is it deeper than that?
4) Have you ever been ashamed of your hair or believed that men with a different hair type had a better chance with women?
5) How important is a woman’s hair to you? Does it matter if she wears a weave, is relaxed or is it frizzy? Do you have a preference?
6) One of the main reasons women are afraid to wear their hair frizzy is because they believe that men don’t like frizzy hair. What do you think about this? If you disagree, where do you think women get this idea?
7) I've heard men say that they didn't like their hair when they were little and that they only started to love it later in life. Does this apply to you?
8) Has your perception of frizzy hair changed?
9) Do you think that frizzy hair is still an issue today? Can you explain why or why not?
10) What do you think about the natural hair movement and what would be your message to Black women when it comes to Black Hair?
One more thing:
* It's fine to introduce yourself and tell what you do, but extensive advertising of your company or products will not be accepted.
* Please leave off music. It only annoys.
