My perception of frizzy hair has not changed. For me, good hair/bad hair was never an issue and I have always found all forms of frizzy hair beautiful.

When and why did you decide to go curly and how did you do it? I went curly 12 years ago and I did it because I was tired of the chemicals. I couldn’t stand the process of relaxing my hair every few months or the obligation to do it every time.

I went frizzy by initially putting my hair in rollers, quiffs, ponytails and every other hairstyle possible to avoid having to comb it out. When I was finally ready I decided to cut the smooth part off and it was the best decision I ever made!

What was the hardest part of the transformation? I think the hardest part was coming up with creative hairstyles, but once I got the hang of it it was super easy.

And the best part? The best part about going frizzy is the versatility of my hair. I can do so much with my frizzy mane and I am so happy about that!

What have you learned through this transformation? It taught me to NEVER listen to negative people. When I went curly it really wasn't like now, that it was in or something. People would ask me in a derogatory way why I went curly again. I just ignored them because stupid people don't deserve an answer.

What was your worst haircut ever and what was your best? Unfortunately I don't have any pictures but my best and worst haircuts are one and the same. I put my hair in rollers very neatly and then separated the curls. It was my BEST AFRO EVER!!. But when it was time to wash my hair it was so tangled that when I combed it I got handfuls of hair out. It was horrible but at the same time the afro was amazing.

Looking back, has your perception of afro hair changed? Can you explain that? My perception of afro hair has not changed. For me, good hair/bad hair was never an issue and I have always found all forms of afro hair beautiful.

What is your favorite haircut? My favorite haircut is my afro. When I went curly I couldn’t wait for my hair to be long enough to have an amazingly big afro like my mom’s back in the day.
