151 years ago slavery was abolished in Suriname. A terrible part of our past that we should not forget. A piece of the past that made us who we are.

Even when I was a little girl growing up in Suriname, I thought Keti Koti was wonderful to celebrate. The Kaseko and Kawina music, the colorful kotos, pangis and anjisas, radiated a splendor, pomp and pride, which undoubtedly radiated confidence in a better world. With the whole Sinterklaas/Pieterbaas discussion, it sometimes seems like going from bad to worse, but by commemorating days like Keti Koti, I have a fundamental confidence that everything will turn out fine.

Here is a one-day Keti Koti sale where the oh so popular Herbal Curl Keeper Gel is available for half the price. Order now.

Happy Keti Koti!
