Surinamese delegation represented at Boucles d'Ebene, the trade fair in Paris
Boucles d'Ebene, an event that started 10 years ago as an expo to promote afro hair, has grown into the largest trade fair for Diaspora entrepreneurs. An estimated 10,000 people will visit Centquatre-Paris where the latest trends in hair, fashion, health and food will be presented in grand style.
The French media will also be present to follow the trends and report on a series of novelties during the last weekend of May. With a hair and fashion show every day, live music and dance performances, Boucles d'Ebene promises to be a sparkling and colourful gathering to honour the Diaspora.
The driving force behind the Surinamese delegation is Mireille Liong-A-Kong, known from kroeshaar.com and her bestseller Going Natural, which was number one on Amazon.
According to Liong, the developments in the field of frizzy hair have created a movement that has stimulated mainly female entrepreneurship worldwide. According to the Social Entrepreneur, this is noticeable in the streets of Brooklyn where she lives, up to and including the beaches of Guadeloupe where she has given workshops by invitation.
"In Paris, the crème de la crème really comes together and as a pioneer of this movement, I think Suriname belongs there, because we are certainly not behind," says Liong. I like to see Surinamese creativity shine among all that beauty.
In addition to the talented Doreen Springers, a new fashion designer on the firmament with Surinamese roots, columnist Tirzah Baak is also part of the 11-person delegation. In addition, Daya Maduro, the first Miss Black Hair Netherlands and the man behind this organization Sherlon Gerard, who are of Antillean descent, will strengthen the ranks there.
Liong, there at the invitation of the organization for her exhibition BAD Hair Uprooted, will give a lecture on the subject and show the documentary the Going Natural Video Diaries. Liong's lecture is on May 31 and starts at 11:00.
Boucles d'Ebene is at Centquatre Paris from May 30 to June 1.
