Do you also feel like the year has flown by? Before you could do everything you had planned, 12 months have passed! Yes, I have that feeling too, but don't worry because this is usually the best time of the year. Family, friends, especially lots of food, that's what makes Christmas and New Year even more fun.
To be honest, I am extra happy that the end of this eventful year full of highs and lows is in sight.
Of course I am very grateful for the highlights. It was really great to be a guest on the TV broadcast of Here and Now . Also the fact that all my projects came together during the exhibition BAD Hair Uprooted for the 10th anniversary of going-natural . com was super special for me. T he publication of the photo book to celebrate the anniversary will always stay with me as well as the premiere of my experimental documentary the Going Natural Video Diaries at the Women of Color Conference . But there were certainly also less pleasant events.
No one is happy with low points but as said they are part of it and more than just to appreciate the high points they are often there to point us in the right direction. Although I understand that the direction is often not immediately clear.
Here in New York, there has not really been a festive atmosphere since Thanksgiving as there normally is at this time of year. Demonstrations against police violence, calls to boycott commerce and now the murder of two police officers as a so-called act of revenge, do not really contribute to a happy Hunnukah , Christmas or Kwanzaa .
Precisely because the future can only show what it is all good for, there is hope. If it is good , we will even have a better year to look forward to because as said: “It's always darkest before dawn” or “After rain comes sunshine”. Precisely for that reason we should reflect in these circumstances to realize what we really enjoy, why and how we could multiply that.
With these deep questions in mind, the holidays are approaching and although the festive mood is not quite there yet, I am not gloomy. I am very much looking forward to 2015 because I am looking forward to the sunshine that is coming. The end of 2014 is followed by the beginning of a new year which means a new beginning, with new chances!
