The first Sabi Wiri Dei

The first Sabi Wiri Dei was more than successful. When the doors opened at 11 o'clock there were already people and while the slide show started with colorful frizzy photos with inspiring hairstyles from Amsterdam, Brooklyn and Suriname the hall was steadily filling up.

After the opening speech, Sharlene Dick extensively discussed Sisterlocks, a way of curling frizzy hair that many people did not know yet. These are very thin dreadlocks that appeal to many women because the styling possibilities that we are used to, such as putting our hair up, can be used very easily with Sisterlocks. Also not unimportant is that they can grow very long. And let's be honest, we love long, long hair.

The models of curly hair came to introduce themselves

It clearly promised to be an informative day, when aunt Es entered the room while the room entered the song “Alla presie” song. Franklin Esajas, the man behind SME Omroep, had prompted the audience to do this to welcome the oh so popular aunt Es. It was heartwarming to see how the audience not only showed her best voice but also welcomed Aunt Es with a look of endless admiration. In my opinion, there is no more beloved aunt on this planet.

Since Aunt Es never appears on location, one is supposed to go to her, this was a very special occasion. It became more than an interesting hilarious conversation.

Raoul at work for the hair show

Tante Es was well aware of the challenges that frizzy haired people face. Men who did not like frizzy hair had to work on themselves first and for the first time she took off her wig to show what relaxers had done to her. The audience was literally in stitches. Also when she ran her hands through the hair of Sisterlock Consultant Charlene and her male hormones went into revolt the visitors roared. After Tante Es interviewed Mireille Liong in a typically humorous way with a reality check here and there, the day could not have been better.

The opening act of the hair show was very successful

After a short break, the lecture by organizer Mireille Liong-A-Kong followed. The owner of kroeshaar.com had clearly come to convey a message. With the lecture Kroeshaar en Maatschappij, she first delved into history to explain how we ended up in the present, what we are now struggling with and especially what we need to work on for a beautiful and healthy future for kroeshaar.

The film Good Hair was a good connection to the lecture because it clearly shows the behavior of the Black woman with regard to the hair. The discussion that followed was also interesting. With a Dutch hairdresser on the panel, Miloushka Meulens from the Jeugd Journaal, Franklin Esajas, Mireille Liong herself and a beautifully coiffed woman from the audience, the visitors were given various opinions.

Anoeska and Raoul with their youngest hair models

The long line at the food stall made it clear that it was now really time to eat. Delicious Surinamese dishes could not be missed on such a day and after people had finished their Her heri, bami nasi or something else the program continued according to schedule.

Marsha, who talked about her specialty of helping cancer patients who have become bald with her constructions, was followed by Levi who shared her vision on frizzy hair care.

After this informative gathering, the audience was ready for the hair show. The audience sat in anticipation of what the organization said would be the highlight of the frizzy hair day. No one really knew what to expect, but they were looking forward to such a first show of frizzy hair hairstyles.

When a dressed-up Mireille entered the room with an inviting, mood-enhancing rhythmic number to announce the show, it became clear that the show was going to be really special.

It was a spectacle! The creative ensembles at a high level showed themselves at a brisk pace. Before the visitor had had enough of one creation, the next followed. Siserlock consultant Charelen showed with her models what is possible with Sisterlocks, whether they are long or short. Then the models of Miss Kroeshaar 2010 introduced themselves, which the audience clearly appreciated. The ladies came on with thunderous applause and walked back with encouraging cheers.

The models of Raoul and Anoeska brought the spectacle to a fitting close. The colourful clothing with an African motif perfectly enhanced the hairstyles. The audience sat on the edge of their seats, thoroughly enjoying example hairstyles that they had never seen before. The closing could not have been better. Everyone present, without exception, is already looking forward to next year.
