In 2011, Sixiomara made her childhood dream come true and started her own beauty salon: La Morena Beautysalon. This is where you need to be for a radiant skin and beauty advice. Just look, she is a walking advertisement for her own salon. Despite the enormous pressure that comes with running a beauty salon, the 34-year-old Curaçaoan made time for kroeshaar.com to talk about her passion and give us some tips on how to best care for our skin. Just in time for the holidays!
In 2011, Sixiomara made her childhood dream come true and started her own beauty salon in Oestgeest, La Morena Beauty Salon. “I had another job for a while and at one point I came to a point in my life where I thought: this is really not the job I want,” says Sixiomara. She then decided to take a beauty course. “I had to work very hard for it, because I also had a regular job and beauty training is quite tough. You have to know a lot about the human body.” Still, this was not a big challenge for Sixiomara. “I was very focused on my studies. It really is my passion!”
You would think that if you are busy with beauty day in day out, you would get fed up with it in your private life and take less care of yourself. But that is not the case with Sixiomara. “I take care of myself down to the last detail! My work is my hobby and passion. My whole life revolves around it. I never get tired of it. It is wonderful to take good care of yourself and others. Your skin needs it! You feel much better about yourself and you can take on the world.”
She also takes care of her frizzy hair down to the last detail. “I use design essentials or going natural. Caring for frizzy hair is really easy. Once every 3 weeks I wash my hair with shampoo, deep condition it with the Going Natural Detox and then I put the caring products in my hair. Every morning I make it a little damp, use a little Leave-in and squeeze it into my hair. That's it. Lovely!”
Be yourself
Sixiomara used to have very long hair. “I never thought my hair was long enough, it always had to be longer. So I did all sorts of things with my hair; weave, braid extensions, you name it.” The beautician also didn’t leave relaxers alone. “I used them so often that my hair can’t handle anything anymore. I have a sensitive scalp and my hair always burns. A few years ago my hair was so broken that I had to cut it really short. So I don’t have a good experience with relaxers at all.” Fortunately, Sixiomara is now happy with her haircut. “I now have short frizzy hair that I always color and I’m really happy with it.” And that, according to her, is the most important thing. “I think everyone should do what they feel comfortable with. If you have to hide your frizzy hair because you’re ashamed of it, that’s never good. Be yourself and be proud of who you are!”
According to Sixiomara, it is just as important to take good care of your skin. “Dark skin is very sensitive. When squeezing, you have to be very careful not to cause pigmentation. The skin is also used to a warm climate and is more likely to be affected in a cold climate. Good care is therefore a must.” What is the best thing to use? “In any case, a good cleanser, day and night cream, eye cream and sunblock,” says Sixiomara. It is also best to go to the beautician at least once every four weeks. “We get a new cell division every month. If you do not remove the dead skin layers regularly, you will see that your skin becomes dull or you will get more impurities. To make your skin glow and look fresh and fruity, it is very important to go to a beauty salon regularly.”
