Stewardess Met Kroeshaar

Flight attendant Sharron Leeuwin - Growing

I was 14 when I started relaxing. The day I graduated from the mulo school my mother allowed me to go to the hairdresser to relax my hair. I thought that was great of course. My hair was beautiful, smooth and long. Because my hair was sooo thick the hairdresser had to use bantu. I found it annoying to put in rollers every night so after a week it didn't look nice anymore.

When, how and why did you go curly?
My hair was getting thinner and thinner and although I always saw people with relaxed hair combing their hair loosely, I couldn't do that because it became a bush in no time. I decided to go back to frizzy hair in high school. I was so proud to be the only misi with frizzy hair during my participation in the Miss Alida contest 2004. Especially with my bantu knots.

But there was still a relax in my hair that made my hair thinner and thinner. In November 2009 I decided to cut it all off. I started all over again. After 4 years I am prouder than ever of my hair. And no, never again chemically damaging stuff on my head

What was the hardest part about going curly?
There was nothing difficult about it. I just have to accept myself with my natural hair. Then it doesn't matter if others have something to say.

And the best part?
Seeing my thick long frizzy hair again. And oh yes, the freedom I had with short hair. Being able to stand freely under the shower in the morning. Hands free through my hair. I miss that now.

What has all this taught you?
Being happy with your crown on your head. Living to please myself and not the rest. Appreciating what I have been given by God.

What were your best haircuts during the period when you went back to afro hair?
Best hairstyle braided mohawk and me buns.

Looking back, has your idea about frizzy hair changed?
Yes, I have started to like it more and I give my fellow curly-haired people more compliments

What's your favorite hairstyle?
High bun

I love my hair because: I am blessed with it
