Bush Negro hair; who would want to walk around like that every day?

The comment by yet another well-known TV personality has really hit hard. During the program 'Bubbles & Gloss,' the host first remarked that "you can't do much with it." "It" referred to kinky hair, of course.

One of my Kinky Hair Hairstyles.

That already shows an annoying ignorance, but the worst followed immediately after: that it's important to teach women how to use certain hair products because they don't always want to look like a 'Bosneger'!

This comment really upset Jae Barbosa Varela. Fortunately, she had recorded the video. The moment she posted it on Facebook, it almost immediately went viral. It has now been viewed more than 15,000 times and is still being shared daily.

My first reaction was that this is another clear example of the fact that Black people belong to the only race on Earth that does not have the right to wear their hair naturally.

Laws based on outdated stereotypes still ensure in this millennium that hairstyles such as dreadlocks, curls, and even braids are not accepted in the workplace.

These outdated ideas persist because a limited group of prominent figures, policymakers, and people in the media refuse to delve into the subject they are talking about. They prefer to believe in stereotypes because it's easier.

I have read many angry reactions, but it's actually nothing new.

As the video poster also indicates:

UPDATE. In short: “we don’t see and don’t want to see what we did wrong. We really don’t care, but here… apologies for whatever it is that caused y’all to be so offended.”

The best reaction, by the way, comes from the comedian YL EAGLE. She's not just funny. She is on point!

is feeling disappointed.

Don't just apologize, but ensure change. And the change lies in diversity. That's what's dramatically missing.

To those who don't quite understand, I kindly ask you to do the following exercise:

Imagine that straight hair would not be accepted as standard in any work environment. Hair that naturally grows downwards and cannot hold braids is considered inferior. Only hair that grows genetically at an angle, voluminous.

To appear acceptable, you have to perm your hair. The stronger, the better. The fact that the chemical stuff is harmful to health and causes hair loss doesn't matter.

If you can somewhat imagine this, you have a small idea of how Black women have had to live for years under the yoke of oppressive laws based on European hair.

For me personally, every woman should choose what she wants to do with her hair and how she wants to look. What I know is that there is an infinite amount possible with kinky hair, that you are actually only limited by your imagination.

For verification, check out the book 'Slecht Haar Ontworteld'. The latest version features photos not only from New York but also from the Maroon community in Suriname.

To the rhetorical remark "they don't want to look like a 'bosneger' every day either," my counter-remark is, "Yes! I wouldn't want it any other way!"

I love my hair, and no strand on my head will ever consider using a chemical component to "de-bosnegerize" my hair.
