As a fan of singers like Bob Marley and Gregory Iscacs, Zino my nephew, soon became fascinated by the reggae culture. Apart from the captivating notes, there was more than just the music that captivated him. The Jamaican culture, the connection with Africa and especially the flashy flowing locs, made an impression on him. He knew early on; I want dreadlocks too.

With kids you never know, but as young as he was he kept asking for his hair to be curled. At the age of 15 it was finally time. With his sweet dad he went all the way from Delft to Amsterdam to transform his blond curls into starting dreadlocks. No one was as happy as my then teenage nephew.
Six years later, for Zino, his hair is more than just a hairdo to boost his image. His now grown-up dreadlocks are inextricably linked to his identity. For him, his locs literally symbolize his connection to his roots.
Wearing growing dreadlocks has helped shape him into the man he is today, because people look at you differently when you have dreadlocks.
On the one hand, the experience is positive. He stands out. He doesn't have to do anything for it except wear his dreadlocks, his natural hair, loose. There aren't many people who wear dreadlocks, but it's clear that almost everyone likes his hair. He gets a lot of compliments, people are interested in his haircut and ask questions.
Besides the positive side, there is of course also a less pleasant side, which we can all predict. You also have to deal with the stereotypical ideas that people assume that you don't work, smoke weed all day or are a criminal. When the police once asked him for his car papers, because he did nothing at all, except chill with a few other dark mates, they almost fell backwards in surprise that he was not in the system. "Hanging while Black" they would say in America. However, these kinds of experiences do not make Zino less proud of his beautiful radiant rootsie dreadlocks.
ZIno keeps his hair in shape by going to the dreadlocks hairdresser or loctition once every two to three months. In addition, he washes his hair once every two weeks with his favorite Going Natural Herbal Shampoo . As many loc wearers, but also regular frizzy hair users will tell you, the shampoo washes wonderfully clean, makes the hair feel soft and leaves no residue. Just watch the video below.
