Kroes gaan dilemma

I don't know my natural hair, how do I start going frizzy?

After a very long time of deliberation I have decided to go back to my natural hair!! I have finally made the decision. I made the same decision about 2 years ago because I was pregnant and did not want to straighten my hair but unfortunately I ran to the hairdresser again shortly after giving birth because I just did not know what to do with it.

My 1.5 year old son has a beautiful head of curls (mix of Surinamese Creole and Hindustani) and that makes me long for my own head of curls even more. I have to be honest and say that I have no idea what my hair used to look like and I think it's a shame.

Like many, I got a haircut when I started high school and have had chemical treatments on my hair ever since. I am so done with it now. I WANT MY BEAUTIFUL NATURAL HAIR. My biggest dilemma is. Where do I start??

I don't have anyone in my circle who has ever gone from relaxed to natural and I honestly don't know any afro hairdressers in The Hague. I also have no idea what type of hair I have. I last relaxed about a month ago so I don't really have much regrowth yet.

The questions I have are the following:

1. What products do you recommend me to use? (shampoo, conditioner)
2. How do I wash my hair? Now I wash and twist it and go under the dryer. Should I just keep doing that?
3. I really don't dare to do the big chop yet. Should I just keep cutting the ends, is that enough for now?

I definitely want to go through this process but I notice that I just need guidance. I hope you can help me a little on my way to really persevere now!

Thank you in advance for your response.

Yours sincerely,
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

Thank you for visiting kroeshaar.com, your extensive explanation and the questions.

First of all I want to say that I understand you very well. I also relapsed once and started relaxing again because I didn't know what to do with my hair. Luckily you don't have to deal with hair breakage, which I did, but the fact that I couldn't deal with my own natural frizzy hair made me think: How is it possible that I can't deal with my own natural frizzy hair but can with relaxed hair? How far have I grown from myself? That was ultimately my motivation to learn how to deal with frizzy hair.

With you it is much more positive; you are inspired by your beautiful son. It can hardly be more beautiful. Still, it is indeed a challenge if you do not know your hair type and do not really have an example in your environment. Hopefully this advice will help you, but I would also like to recommend that you visit kroeshaar.com regularly to just get to know people here. You can also just ask them for advice. That is what the site and especially the kroeshaar community are for.

The products I can recommend to get you started are:

The Clean Start , for a deep cleanse, the No More Knots to easily get those almost impossible tangles out of the hair and the Silky Shea Hair Butter to keep the hair soft and supple. For an even more extensive answer see the video: How do you start going frizzy? Since this is a frequently asked question I made a video of it.

Success!
