Reunion of Adopted Children

Every year Auntie, a foundation for adopted children from Nigeria, organizes an annual meeting for adoptive parents and their children. Since last year kroeshaar.com has been invited to provide workshops and to guide the families in kroeshaarland. This year I went along with Satcha to assist her with a few things.

PICT5532.jpg It was great fun to see the children. Happy children in all shapes, colours and scents. Besides the mothers who were ready with questions, the girls were also interested in possible hairstyles and hair products. The little ones especially enjoyed smelling the products.

While Satcha demonstrated how to easily deal with frizzy hair, I spoke to a number of mothers. Unfortunately, they are told far too often that girls' hair needs to be relaxed. Even at a young age. Of course, I advise every mother against this. Relaxing only makes the care more difficult. Especially for children. I have seen that with many children, the hair becomes stiff, dries out and eventually breaks. Fortunately, Satcha was also able to show how to make nice braids and twists with frizzy hair.

Braids are popular with the older, almost teenage girls. But here too I discovered that one of the girls relaxed her hair first and then braided it. That is the worst thing you can do with your hair. Relaxed hair is weakened hair. If you add extensions to it, the chance that the hair will break, thin out or even fall out is very big. So don't do it.

All in all it was a very nice day. The weather was nice, the atmosphere was friendly and it was nice to talk to concerned mothers about the care of frizzy hair. In addition to the frizzy hair workshop there were many activities. The children could play drums, football and there was delicious food. There were also beautiful Nigerian fabrics, masks and clothing available. I was also able to get my hands on a very nice Dashiki (African shirt).
