Do you remember that Raul Neijhorst asked me for his book Suriname Beken(d)t? Read What makes kroeshaar so Bijzonder? In the meantime I have received the beautiful book and yes I am in it! On page 108 to be exact LOL. Ok, I am being a bit dramatic, but it is really not because I am in it.
I really read more than my own page. Profiles of Surinamese people of whom I have been a fan for years and of Surinamese people who were not really known to me. Who does not know Boegroe from Trafasi? I grew up with that music! Stan Franker, who was the national coach of the Dutch tennis team, an old mate of my dad, who coached Thomas Muster and Richard Craitcheck, two big names in tennis.
These are just two of the 75 people from the inspiring book. With all the commotion going on, you sometimes forget that there are Surinamese people who are doing well. That actually most Surinamese people, just like you and me, are hardworking, right-thinking people. Good people, who have the best intentions for Suriname.
That's why I think this book is already a classic. Just like Kroeshaar, wat je moet weten en meer, the very first of its kind and an enrichment on all fronts. It's really nice to see photos and read profiles of these famous Surinamese, what drives them, why they do what they do. A reflection of who we are.
Now, with Keti Koti, the celebration of the abolition of slavery, Raul has another great action. Surinamese have achieved great things in 2016, 153 years after the abolition of slavery, he says. You can see that in the book Suriname Beken(d)t. 1 July 1863 – 1 July 2016. Keti Koti is a great day to reflect on what the descendants of the slaves have achieved. Hence this action. Great, isn't it?
I am a proud Surinamese and am known in Suriname #ketikoti #surinamebekendt. You can order the book via: http://www.surinamebekendt.com/product/boek-suriname-bekendt/
