Since I discovered the International African Arts Festival, I always keep this weekend free to walk around the stands, take pictures, listen to new music and much more. It is truly the most colorful festival I have ever experienced.

I think it is such a fantastic event that I signed up as a volunteer and, among other things, created their website: http://www.iaafestival.org/ .
The festival organizers faced a big challenge this year. Due to construction, the fields were limited and they had a lack of space. As a result, there were not as many stands as last year, but that did not spoil the fun.

The last four days colorful stands with all sorts of things were ready to attract visitors. Music, food, clothing, art and jewelry in abundance. It is so hard to choose. Everything is beautiful. If you are not careful you will be bankrupt before the month has even started.

I bought delicious coconut from these two Rastafarians from Jamaica. It is cut open in front of you. When you are done drinking, a "spoon" is cut open for you from the coconut husk, as in the old days, so that you can eat the meat with a spoon. Delicious!

People who ask me where I get my accessories from, this is my secret. The International African Arts Festival lives up to its name. At this festival you will find jewelry, fabrics and designs from all over the Diaspora.
This festival is definitely worth it. They now offer affordable housing for those coming from outside New York because there is so much interest. I believe it is student housing. The festival is every year around the 4th of July weekend. If you are interested, let me know in advance.
