At the beginning of the year I received an email from Guadeloupe. Luckily it was in English because my French is zero. For 9 years now, following the example of America, they have been celebrating Black History Month on the French island and this year they wanted to invite me to give a presentation and workshop on Afro Hair. Deeply flattered, I was of course up for it.

Besides this being a great milestone for me personally, it is fantastic that natural afro hair is increasingly and globally in the spotlight. Finally! Awesome! That's what I do it for!
When my book “Kroeshaar, Wat je moet weten en meer” (Froggy Hair, What You Need to Know and More) came out in 2003, I had no idea what would come next. All I knew was that something about our behavior in relation to our hair had to change. That one book has led to a website, another book, another website, own products and now Guadeloupe!
People, I really think it's great that I can go there and share my acquired knowledge with the people there. But I will also be more than happy to tell them that it all started here, with kroeshaar.com.
As headstrong as I am, no one could stop me from showing off my God-given curly hair. Some called it “having guts” others were uncomfortable with my non-conformist hairstyles and tried to talk me out of it. Literally every one of these experiences contributed to the development of this site where you have slowly but surely embraced me and curly hair. I am very grateful to you for that. If you still have a few miles to go, come to Guadeloupe on the weekend of February 17th. If you can’t make it, don’t worry, I will definitely keep you informed. My video and camera are ready.
Stay tuned!
Here is a video of this year's theme: Egypt.
