Films, a workshop, a photoshoot and more
On Saturday May 5th the first Kroeshaar Filmfestival will take place in Theater Unique from 12:00 to 6:00. Besides films there will also be a photoshoot, a panel discussion and a workshop on the program where the much requested Going Natural products from America will be available.
The day starts with a photoshoot that, like the festival, is accessible to everyone, young and old, frizzy or not. Social entrepreneur and organizer Liong, who comes over from New York, wants to supplement her now world-famous collection of frizzy hair portraits with hairstyles from Surinamese soil. At the moment, some of her photos can be seen in the exhibition “A Choice of Weapons” in Manhattan, New York.
The main film “In our Heads about Hair” literally takes a cheerful look into the minds of everyday people by letting them talk about frizzy hair. It is worth mentioning that Mireille Liong is also in this film, filmed in her home in Brooklyn.
“Beautiful, the Documentary”, the other film on the program, is a documentary in which three different American women each give their own perspective on afro hair in the work environment and in family relationships.
By combining films with a hair and products workshop I hope to deepen the discussion around the acceptance of frizzy hair and to transfer knowledge about the care of this hair type, says Liong. For me the festival will be a success if everyone has a super fun day and leaves Theater Unique enriched with new knowledge. More information can be found on kroeshaar.com.
