Coincidentally, there was a radio program about black hairstyles yesterday. It was mainly about weaves.
The male presenter said that he doesn't have anything against weaves as a hairstyle, but that he is annoyed by certain things that come with them. He can't stand hair all over the place and also the fact that he can't "wrestle" with a woman who has such an expensive weave hairstyle because she's afraid of ruining her hair. At least this gentleman was reasonably informed because most men don't even know that their wife or girlfriend wears a weave.

I myself have also worn weaves. I can relate to "hair all over the place" and I have to agree with him. It is indeed very difficult. But being afraid of ruining your weave? That was new to me. I thought the idea of a weave was precisely to have a carefree hairstyle. That you could exercise, dance and even swim without having to worry too much about your hair. Apparently not. There are women who spend fortunes on a weave and then they are also careful with their "hair". A spontaneous day at the beach is not an option for them.
Now that I think about it, the weave was indeed not cheap. For the hair alone, I paid about 80 guilders and to actually weave it another 150. Wow, that's really expensive: 230 guilders total! My motivation was a carefree hairstyle with the added benefit that my hair could also grow out nicely. That is the absolute advantage of the weave. Your own hair can recover from all the impossible things we do to our hair. I am talking about the cornrow weave. No other weave is recommended for kinky hair. Especially not the types of weaves that involve glue.
Although weaves offer fun alternatives and are nice to experiment with, it is terrible if you are dependent on fake hair for the rest of your life. In my opinion, it is good to see the weave as an investment. An investment in healthy hair because let's be honest, weaves are worn because we ourselves hardly have any hair left on our heads. Bald spots and receding hairlines are common. It seems like an epidemic. It is very sad that we have let it come to this, that we have to buy hair when we are born with a full head of hair.
If you have to spend so much money to camouflage all sorts of hair problems, then don't let it be money thrown away. In all likelihood, it will not only cost you the down payment for a house, but more; your self-confidence. Not being able to be spontaneously yourself for a lifetime is a very high price.
