Lisa quickly bought the book Kroeshaar and follows the site closely. She invited me to also take a look at her new website http://www.awidya.com. Of course I invited her for an interview.
Very nice informative site. What is the goal and how did you get into this? What future plans do you have for the site?
Through life experiences and affinity I understood that cultural experience is very broad and goes much further than just religion. As a core activity, the website inventories people and organizations with the aim of creating a network. It also cuts both ways; it is inspiring to meet people who operate from the soul. Awidya.com started as a hobby, but is becoming more and more serious. The website is now visited daily, people give feedback more and more often and that stimulates me to see how it can be expanded.
Do you do anything else besides maintaining this site?
I currently work as an executive secretary. As a hobby, I enjoy capturing images with my video camera. I made and presented my first montage in April 2004, especially for a celebration at the RVA Sports Association in The Hague. It was an impression of three events that I had visited. In addition, I regularly volunteer for various projects.
Your hair is fantastically beautiful. Well cared for and healthy it looks. How long have you been natural and how do you care for your hair and what kind of hairstyle do you prefer to wear? Why?
Thank you. I have been natural since the summer of 2000. I prefer to treat my hair with natural products.
Hair care depends on the hairstyles I wear. After washing and creaming, I usually twist my hair. Since I started using Aloe Vera oil, I notice how my hair shines and is easy to style. Every now and then I wear twist-out for a big head of curls. I can't wear this for too long, because that's asking for trouble.
I like variety and am inspired by Afro models. I can do most hairstyles myself. If I ever feel like kwi-kwi ba, my (in-laws) family are ready to provide me with a nice hairstyle.
Currently I am wearing a variation of Bantu knots. The hair is after division, braided and twisted into a bun. The buns are firm without the use of elastics. Before sleeping I take the braids out of their bun. In the morning I twist everything just as easily back into a real bantu!
Did you get all that from my book? No seriously, what did you think of frizzy hair you need to know and more?
Frizzy hair gave me insight into how I can better comb my hair without unnecessary hair loss. It turned out that my brush and comb were not at all tailored to my hair type! The section on relaxers + appendix B gave me a clear picture of what happens to your hair.
You can see that the website is a great addition to the book. It is also not a 'dead' process and everyone can support each other in this. I find the frizzy hair shop a welcome addition. I hear good things about Carol's daughter products. I am curious!
Is taking care of your hair a lot of work and time consuming?
It takes the same amount of time as when I was still relaxing. The difference is that I am not as dependent on a hairdresser now and the costs have dropped considerably. Combing out my hair has to be done more carefully, but it is definitely worth it!
Have you ever relaxed? If yes, how long and what was the reason for stopping relaxing? If no, why not?
Yes! I am blessed with a large head of hair, which required a lot of maintenance. Day in, day out it was a crying shame to comb it out. At the age of 12 my hair was relaxed for ease.
As a teenager it was really fun to look like my idol Janet Jackson. As I got older and started developing my own identity I got a little bit more relaxer-tired.
Because I loved swimming and diving, I started diving training at the age of 20. I experienced the great disadvantage of all those expensive products to wash the chlorine out of my hair. Even when I went to the gym, I noticed how I sweated on my scalp. After every training I could go under the hood with hair rollers for an hour.
All in all, I had been thinking about going back to my own natural hair for a long time. The breakthrough came in the year 2000, after I had put extra strain on my hair by dyeing it. I decided to cut it all off and started over with my own hair. I felt reborn! An appearance that matches the inner self.
How do you feel about relaxing now?
My mother didn't know any better at the time, but her grandchildren are learning how to take good care of their own hair and appreciate it. If they do decide to relax their hair later, they are at least aware of the possible consequences.
What do you think about frizzy hair?
Beautiful! It makes me feel good. I like how people are increasingly appreciating frizzy hair. It is very striking that people today look differently at the hairstyles of the Maroons. In the past, it was considered backward.
