With some Nappturality members I had arranged to go to the Dance Africa Festival. Every year BAM, Brooklyn Academy of Music, organizes this festival on Memorial Day weekend. Besides dance and music performances there is also a market with food, drinks, clothing, art and how could it be otherwise hair products. Brooklyn is really the cultural center of African culture in America. Not only stars like Spike Lee live here, Chris Rock also grew up here.
The 3 day festival attracts many people from far and wide and it is always a pleasure to experience it. Here the curly haired are in the majority and the hairstyles are so beautiful. It looks like a hair show. African hair continues to fascinate, just look.

singer Somi from Somi Sunshine.
Not only does she look beautiful, she also sings beautifully.
There were locks, lots of locks. Long loose dreadlocks are quite normal but most know how to make something extra of it. Look at these hairstyles. You don't just copy this. The hairstyles are unique works of art.

Right: After 17 years of dreadlocks I cut them off. I just wanted something different.

Of course there were also afros in colors and scents. Round, free, big and small.

Tiga is a Haitian musician. In the summer he often ties up his locks.

This lady is a walking show. I had already photographed her last year.
Anyone who thinks that dreadlocks cannot offer any variety is really wrong.
